ENABLE Glasgow is a voluntary organisation and registered charity which works with people with learning disability and their carers in Glasgow, Scotland. The organisation was established in 1956, and was formerly known as the Scottish Society for the Mentally Handicapped. Thankfully, we’ve moved on from such terminology since then, and the Society became ENABLE in 1993.
Although ENABLE Glasgow is autonomous, we are part of the national ENABLE Scotland network, which operates all over the country.
ENABLE Glasgow is run by its members through a Management Committee, most of whom are carers, members of a family with a person who has learning disabilities, or service users. The Committee is elected by the membership.
Day-to-day running of the organisation is delegated to the staff team.
