Our Fortune Works Growing to Respect Each Other Group have been taking on a active part for the Hate Crime Awareness Week which commenced the 22nd October.
As can been seen the Respect Group have been champions in targeting 'Hate Crime Awarness' and how to tackle and report such important issues.
Possobilities Friday 7th September
Diasbility, diversity and doing it for ourselves event at Possobilities, the Respect group gave their presentation and asked questions from participants regarding 'Hate Crime Issues'. The goup also took part in other workshops that were available at the event including some creative art.
Sunny Govan Radio 11th October
Derek, Sally, Helen, Pater, Mark and Johannes from the Respect Group went to Sunny Govan Community Radio and recorded elements of the 'Hate Crime Presentation'. The recordings were edited together and played on the radio station on Thursday 18th October.
Loretto Housing 16th October
The Respect group gave their presentation to service users at Loretto Housing in Maryhill. Spreading the word about how to deal with 'Hate Crime' and raising some important issues.
City Chambers 18th October & 22nd October
Part of the respect group attended a photo call at the City Chambers for the beginning of the Hate Crime Awareness week along with elected members, partners and the official campaign banner. The photographs were being taken to gain media attention for the Glasgow wide campaign.
On the 22nd October the Respect Group delivered their presentation to councillors and MSP's at the City Chambers on the first day of 'Hate Crime Awareness' Week.
Third Party Reporting Meeting - Wednesday 24th October
The Respect Group gave their presentation at the beginning of the 'Third Party Reporting' meeting in Glasgow. This was an excellent opportunity to increase awareness of Fortune Works and the issues surrounding Hate Crime within Glasgow.
White Ribbon Meetings
Two of our Respect Group service users attended two meeting of the 'White Ribbon' group in Drumchapel. We also welcomed Lesley Sherwood from the Health Improvement Team who delivered a presentation at Fortune Works which all of our serivce users and staff who attended found very beneficial. There will also be an opportunity to attend a Community Engagement Meeting later on in the year that our Respect Group will attend.
Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service 26th October
Some of the Respect Group went along to the 'Prosecuting Disability and Homophobic Hate Crime - the Court System' event as part of the development of Hate Crime Awareness Week. The procurator fiscal employees gave the group a presentation about Hate Crime and the law and put on a mock trial where someone was accused of a racially aggravated offense. This opportunity allowed the Respect group to see the support the court had in place for issues regarding Hate Crime.
The Respect Group
As can be seen the Respect Group have taken on an highly active part in the Hate Crime Week and will continue to promote, support and deliver presentations within the community. The concept is to reduce Hate Crime and to offer a wealth of information to those who require it.
