Thomas Fortune Centre’s Community Café project marries the demand for affordable meals with the opportunity for people with learning disability to learn work based skills. People are trained to work in various aspects of the café which serves meals to those who use the Centre as well as offering a hot and cold breakfast and lunch take-away service to the local community.
This year the cafe has helped support two members of the Thomas Fortune Centre to make fundamental progress in achieving ENABLE Glasgow’s long standing ambition of allowing people with learning disability to access mainstream qualifications. The service users in question both achieved REHIS Certificates in Elementary Food Hygiene. Most recently the café has successfully secured funding from the Evening Times’ Gannett Foundation for refurbishing its dining area.
