New Carers Advocacy Service for South-West Glasgow

A new Advocacy Service for unpaid carers living in the South West of Glasgow is available from Carers Scotland.  Funding has been secured for nine months from the Scottish Government to work along side existing Carers Centres in the area to provide one-to-one advocacy for carers and help them express their own needs and make informed decisions.

The Advocacy Service may be useful if the carer has a specific issue with which they would like support.  It might be around the level or quality of services received by the cared-for person or anything affecting their caring role.  Carers Scotland says “the important thing about the service is that it’s for the carer rather than the cared for and it’s about giving the carer a voice which may otherwise go unheard”

The Project also aims to develop materials for carers to help them self advocate in the future, if carers are unable to access advocacy support elsewhere.  The Carers Advocacy Service for the South West of Glasgow is a Pilot and will run until June 2012.  For more information, contact Carers Scotland on 0141 445 3070 or email advocacy@carerscotland.org.  You can also download a leaflet about the service which gives full contact details.
