Where Do You Go When You Need Support in an Emergency?

One of the biggest worries for families and carers who support someone with a learning disability is what would happen if the carer was suddenly unable to continue caring.  How would the person they support get the care they need in an appropriate setting, straight away?

ENABLE Glasgow can now offer some help in this situation through provision of an emergency short-stay facility within the Balshagray Project.

There are already a number of respite care resources in Glasgow.  However, these are mostly used for programmed, pre-planned respite, and are therefore usually fully used.  In emergency situations, Care Managers, Duty Social Workers, and families often find it difficult or impossible to find appropriate support immediately.

We have now completed refurbishment work at our Balshagray unit, and can provide a short-stay facility which can be accessed  by staff with the expertise to support a wide range of special needs. This resource can be accessed at very short notice in emergencies.

We believe that this  service provides a solution which is welcomed by families, service users, and is an affordable and accessible resource for professionals.

ENABLE Glasgow gratefully acknowledges the support of the Scottish Government Short Breaks Fund and Glasgow City Council in being able to provide this service.
