Applying for a Blue Badge in Glasgow - What to Do

A Blue Badge entitles many people with  exemption from certain parking restrictions.  The Badge has to be revewed forom time to time, and some people don’t know that the system has changed recently.

The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for disabled people who travel either as drivers or passengers. The national concessions allow badge holders to park on streets (but they may not apply to car parks and off-street parking).

From 5 July 2010, an administration fee of £20 is charged for a Blue Badge. This charge applies to all Blue Badge applications, including renewals and replacements.  A Blue Badge will not be issued unless payment is received.  The form you need can be downloaded from Glasgow City Council’s website, or by post or collection from Wheatley House, 25 Cochrane Street, Glasgow G1 IHL, Tel. 0141 287 4578.

There are two ways in which you may qualify for a badge.  You are entitled to an automatic application if you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, are registered blind or have a vehicle supplied through the Motability Scheme.

You are entitled to a discretionary Badge if your disability causes inability to walk or very considerable difficulty in walking.  You’ll need to provide evidence of this.

We realise this seems complicated, but apart from the fee, it’s not so different from the old system.  Please contact us if we can help, and further instructions (and application forms) are available from the Glasgow City Council website.
